Sexworkers' Children in Pune

Nihar Hostel in Pune (Traud-Dubois 2011)The Nihar Hostel

The children of the sex workers of Pune are living far out-of-town. Here the sponsoring of a Dutch organization provides them with lodging and they attend school in a nearby village. Apart from this, they are lacking many things. Especially girls have extremely bad starting conditions for a future life in decent conditions.  That is to say, a life not forcing them to follow their mothers´way of earning their living. There are scarcely possibilities of education. To attend college, a good graduation and financial support are required. And as early as children do they learn from their social environment about their mothers´ profession and that they will never share their fathers´name. This means a weighty stigma in the Indian society!

Mädchen beim Nähen (Traud-Dubois 2011)Professional Training

Here Dr. Mune and her team are offering training sessions since February 2011. Karuna Deutschland is sponsoring this training for the young girls in order to enable them to develop skills useful for their subsequent professional lives. The first training sessions equipped them with knowledge about sewing plush toys and pillows. During the summer holidays a seminar on office assistance took place and also a teaching of computer skills.

Puja, 19, ist eine der wenigen Mädchen, die ein College besucht (Traud-Dubois 2011)The First Step Has Been Done

The girls are enjoying their collective work, helping each other. When having achieved more practise, they want to sell the plush toys and pillows.

Besides, in this way they are growing in confidence and can develop their personality.

In 2012 we are going to continue the prevocational seminars and want to establish sponsorships for those girls who might attend college but cannot do this due to the lack of support.
